An Iconic First-Year T-Bird with Rare Performance & Smart Upgrades
This stunning 1955 Ford Thunderbird isn’t just a classic—it's a conversation piece. As a first-year model of the first-generation Thunderbird, it already holds a special place in automotive history. But this particular example goes a step further, thanks to its unique backstory and performance-enhancing factory anomalies.
Rare 312 CI V8 Engine (260 HP) with 4-barrel carburetor – a powerplant not officially available until the 1956 model, believed to be installed late in the '55 production run
3-Speed Manual Transmission with Overdrive – a combination that was seldom seen, even when available
New Wide Whitewall Radial Tires – delivers a smooth, period-correct look with modern drivability
Upgraded Suspension – larger front stabilizer bar and newly added rear stabilizer bar, dramatically improving handling and reducing the notorious body roll of stock models
Dual Wheel Cover Sets Included - both brand-new wire wheel hubcaps and original-style full cover hubcaps
Refreshed Interior – featuring new door panels, rugs, and an upgraded tan cloth soft top
Black Hard Top Included – for year-round versatility and show-ready presentation
All New Chrome Trim & Badges – shines like new with attention to detail throughout
Nice Paint with Patina – the clear coat holds up well with only minor signs of age; a perfect candidate for concours-level repaint if desired
In the final months of 1955 production, Ford may have run short on the standard 292 CI engines and automatic transmissions. This car, produced in November, is believed to be one of the rare few fitted with the more powerful 312 CI engine and the manual transmission with overdrive—an uncommon pairing even in 1956. This rare setup makes this Thunderbird not only a pleasure to drive but a valuable and appreciating piece of American automotive history.
