Little GTO - This monster was THE FIRST of the muscle-cars - powerful and fun to drive

History: John DeLorean stood at the Pontiac proving grounds in 1963, staring at a Tempest on the lift. “Drop the 389 in,” he said. Twenty minutes later the first GTO roared to life. He named it after Ferrari’s homologation special and slipped it past GM as an option. 

This 1964 blue-poly convertible with black bucket seats and white top—rolled off the line the next year, one of 6,644. On a summer evening the metallic blue paint still flashes the same way it did when DeLorean first took a prototype out himself. The 389 barks, the white canvas folds, and the Goat that started the muscle-car war still feels like the one he built in secret on a Saturday morning. Pontiac says this one is a clone but you'd never know it.
